Insights from New Orleans Logistics & IANA Business Meeting
Recently attended the IANA Business Meeting in New Orleans, one of the key logistics gateways in the U.S.
What impressed me the most was how New Orleans connects:
β’ Ocean freight
β’ Mississippi River barge network
β’ Rail intermodal transportation
β’ Inland trucking
all into one large supply chain system.
Unlike some ports that focus mainly on import cargo, New Orleans has a very strong export-driven logistics structure.
Especially:
π½ Grain exports
π§ͺ Chemical cargo
𧱠Resin exports
β Coffee imports
π¦ Inland container movement
are heavily connected through the Mississippi River and Gulf Coast network.
One of the biggest takeaways from this trip was understanding how important inland container flow is in the U.S.
In many discussions during IANA, operators talked about:
β’ Empty container imbalance
β’ Chicago surplus issues
β’ Rising reposition costs
β’ Rail congestion
β’ Depot capacity challenges
Because of this, One-Way Lease demand continues to grow as companies try to move equipment more efficiently between regions.
One-Way Lease & Sales Back
As inland logistics becomes more complex, flexible equipment circulation is becoming increasingly important.
Sales Back and One-Way Lease solutions can help:
In this environment, One-Way Lease and Buy-Back programs are becoming increasingly important.
These solutions can help:
β Reduce empty reposition expenses
β Improve inland equipment circulation
β Support export cargo movement
β Increase operational flexibility
β Reduce long-term storage burden
Especially in regions such as Chicago, Memphis, Atlanta, Houston, and Gulf Coast ports, operators are increasingly looking for flexible equipment solutions that reduce unnecessary empty movement and improve container utilization.
